Successful sharing
produces personal joy and creates richness and
depth in society.
Increased sharing has tremendous economic, social, and
environmental benefits. It can be called a revolutionary act, and has the
power to free us from the grip of huge corporate interests and can even
reduce global warming. It can also be called the ultimate act of
conservatism, which allows us to be good stewards of our resources on the
earth.
|
|
Sharing allows us to conserve physical resources, which:
-
Reduces pressure on the natural environment (in the
sense that less items need to be manufactured);
-
Allows
each of us to live with less clutter.
|
|
|
|
Sharing allows us to conserve monetary resources, which:
-
Saves money in the short run; and
-
Allows for the purchase of better
personal
items in the long run.
|
|
|
|
Sharing gives us access
to a range of possessions and tools which we would
have never thought to purchase for ourselves. |
|
|
|
Sharing encourages us to combine our resources with others for purchases which,
although personally rarely used, will benefit all
concerned (for example, in a group purchase of a
utility-hauling trailer, a canoe, media materials,
etcetera). This leverages our personal resources
and empowers our neighborhood community. |

MOST
IMPORTANTLY:
|
|
| |
-
As we repeat "shares" our trust in
our sharing partners is automatically increased, forming the basis for
ever-deepening, long-term friendships.
-
In repeated
successful sharing acts, our trust in an ever-expanding group
of people is increased, and a sense of community is
enhanced, which is the final purpose of the
Neighborhood Trust Network.
